ART COLLECTION BY LOUIS NALLARD AND MARIA MANTON-NALLARD - Lot 188

ART COLLECTION BY LOUIS NALLARD AND MARIA MANTON-NALLARD Maria Manton and Louis Nallard occupy a unique place in the history of abstract art in the second half of the 20th century. United in life as well as in work, they shared the same daily commitment to painting, the same rejection of the anecdotal, and a constant focus on the construction of the painting. Their artistic dialogue, which began during their years in Algiers and continued in Paris after 1947, is rooted in a shared discipline and a rigorous pursuit of formal balance. While Louis Nallard is fully immersed in the lyrical abstraction of the New School of Paris, with an energetic, rhythmic, and assertive style of painting, Maria Manton simultaneously develops a more introspective body of work, structured by the slow elaboration of forms and a mastery of surface relationships. Far from any mutual imitation, their works resonate with one another through a shared rigor and fidelity to non-figurative language, each asserting a personal artistic voice.
