MAJOR HISTORICAL PIECE OF BELGIAN & MARITIME HERITAGE Exceptional official document from its era, dated July 22, 1885, drawn on the Finance Ministry (Cabinet) letterhead and bearing the rare official armorial seal in red ink of the Cabinet. This letter holds a double historical and collectible significance: 1. AUTOGRAPH SIGNATURE OF A NOBEL PEACE LAUREATE: The document is signed by the hand of Auguste BEERNAERT (1829-1912). Then Head of Government and Minister of Finance of Belgium, he would become a global humanitarian figure by receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1909 for his major work at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. His ministerial official autographs are highly sought after. 2. ROYAL INAUGURATION OF THE QUAYS OF ONE OF EUROPE'S LARGEST PORTS: This invitation letter of the utmost protocole significance is addressed to Monsieur Victor Van Wambeke, Vice-President of the Chamber of Representatives in Aalst. It solemnly invites him to attend, on July 26, 1885, the historic inauguration of the new maritime facilities of the Port of Antwerp. The event takes place in the exceptional presence of Their Majesties King Leopold II and Queen Marie-Henriette, as well as the entire Royal Family. The text is rich with fascinating historical details about the protocol of this historic day: • Boarding planned on the Thames aboard the state coach "Prince Baudouin". • Maritime honor guard by the State steamship "L'Émeraude". • Setting up a special train from Brussels-North Station at 11:33 to transport the dignitaries. Piece characteristics: • Author: Auguste Beernaert (Autograph signature in ink, perfectly legible and black). • Recipient: Victor Van Wambeke (Prominent Belgian political figure). • Date: July 22, 1885. • Dimensions: Official format of the era (double folio). • Condition: Generally very respectable for an official document of more than 140 years.
