[Please note that the background setting in some images was created using AI to present the books in a pleasant environment. These background elements do not alter or affect the true representation and condition of the books] STORIA, POTERE E GEOGRAFIA POLITICA DELL’EUROPA CENTRALE, NEL SECOLO DEI LUMI Imponente impresa storiografica settecentesca dedicata alla storia generale della Germania, concepita come sintesi monumentale delle vicende politiche, istituzionali e dinastiche dell’area germanica dalle origini all’età moderna. MARKET VALUE Set complete of the Histoire générale d’Allemagne appear on the market with some regularity, but often in problematic condition due to intensive use and the scope of the work. Pierre Barre CONTEXT AND SIGNIFICANCE The work was created at a moment when Germany represents, in the eyes of French historians, a politically complex and fragmented space, yet central to European balance. Barre approaches the subject with an approach that blends chronicle, institutional history and analysis of imperial dynasties, offering a broad view of the Holy Roman Empire and its transformations. The presence of extensive cartographic sections reflects the importance attributed to historical geography as a tool for understanding power, in a sensibility typical of the Enlightenment. BIOGRAPHY OF THE AUTHOR Pierre Barre was a historian and compiler active in 18th-century France, author of works of broad historical ambition intended for an educated and institutional public. His production fits within the strand of the great narrative historiography of the Enlightenment, characterized by systematic aims and a strong focus on the political dimension of European history. PRINTING HISTORY AND CIRCULATION Printed in Paris in 1748 by Delespine and Hérissant, the Histoire générale d’Allemagne was conceived as a long-term reference work, intended for public and private libraries with wide reach. Its spread across numerous volumes and the presence of engraved plates and folded maps make it a typical prestige publishing product of 18th-century France.
