Had contact with the artist and received these responses from him: In that period I made a whole series of those paintings. A kind of combination of a spherical space and flat surfaces. The work was hanging at the time in an exhibition at the Stedelijk. 'A large activity'. The title is a text by Nick Cave. I thought that was a beautiful text by Nick Cave and it was more like an associative addition to the image to give it a meaning beyond just an abstract composition. In this way you could also interpret those squares as gravestones, as if it could be a cemetery. But it is mainly associative. It is not that I took that text as the starting point for the painting. That arises during painting.
