Beautiful Vintage White Gold Ring with Sapphire & Diamonds, c. 1985

Eternity rings with a gemstone in the centre and a surrounding frame of diamonds have been an integral part of jewellery history since the Baroque period. However, each era has adapted this theme to reflect the prevailing fashion of the time. The ring presented here, from the 1980s, uses this motif as the foundation for a bold, modern design. In the 1980s, jewellery pieces with large volumes were highly sought after. Accordingly, the ring features a wide band that seamlessly flows into the ring head, holding the precious gemstones in a polished, reflective setting. The combination of gemstones – a dark blue sapphire and diamonds – is imbued with strong symbolism: The sapphire has long been regarded as a symbol of loyalty. The beautiful, bright white diamonds appear in this ring as a symbol of the eternal love of the giver, as diamonds are considered imperishable. Furthermore, the sparkling diamonds accentuate the deep colour of the sapphire, surrounding it in a perfect frame. This beautiful ring came to us from Vienna.
