Benjamin Levy ( 1940-2010) - Personnage au cerceau dans...

We present to you this very beautiful original color lithograph on paper depicting a character playing with a hoop in a theatrical space by Benjamin Levy (1940-2010). The composition shows a character dressed in green, wearing a hat, kneeling on a floor in front of a black background. He holds a red hoop, the trace of which forms an expressive loop in space. The work is signed in pencil at the bottom left and numbered 19/200 at the bottom right. Title: Character with Hoop in a Theatrical Space Technique: Original color lithograph on paper Artist: Benjamin Levy (1940-2010) Artwork size: 39.5 × 51 cm Overall frame size: 56 × 66 cm Condition: Very good overall condition, light handling marks on the margins Born in Tel Aviv in 1940 and died in 2022, Benjamin Levy is an Israeli-American painter, sculptor and lithographer whose autodidactic path, marked by dyslexia, began in Israel with Abraham Yaskil, in Paris at the Montparnasse School, and in New York at the Pratt Graphic Art Center. He developed a unique style blending dreamlike imagery, theatricality and reminiscences of old family photographs. A prolific artist who worked from dawn to dusk for over 65 years, he split his life between New York, Tel Aviv and the artists’ village of Ein Hod in Israel. His mastery of the graphic arts, particularly lithography and aquatint, enabled him to create a rich body of work exploring the human condition with dreamlike and poetic precision. Throughout his career, he undertook more than 120 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 500 group exhibitions around the world. His works are now part of permanent collections of prestigious international institutions, such as the Jewish Museum in New York or the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. He also received numerous honors, including an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in the 1980s and the first prize of Audubon Artists in 1969.
