Benvenuto Cellini / Johann Wolfgang von Goethe...

Benvenuto Cellini. Deutsch von Goethe. Mit Steinzeichnungen von Max Slevogt – Benvenuto Cellini / Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (translation) / Max Slevogt (illustrations) [Berlin]: Bruno Cassirer, 1913. [6], 423, [1] pages. 24.1cm x 18.1cm Full leather binding with red gilt decorated and lettered label on the spine, red edges, and patterned endpapers. First edition thus of this illustrated autobiography of Renaissance master Benvenuto Cellini, rendered into German by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and magnificently brought to life with 303 original lithographs by Max Slevogt. Some rubbing, bumping, wear, and tanning to the boards and spine. Pencil markings on the half title. Hardly any browning and spotting throughout. Occasionally some light creasing of the corners. The text and illustrations are clear, the paper is crisp, and the binding is solid. Overall, a handsome copy in very good condition.
