Bilanga Meteorite Diogenite Fall 1999 Burkina-Faso - 7.78 g

Bilanga one of only 11 witnessed falls of a diogenite meteorite ! Pieces are reported to have fallen in the villages of Bilanga-Yanga and Gomponsago the October 27th, 1999 at 10:30 local time. The local villagers heard several loud explosions but saw nothing as the sky was obscured by clouds that day. A few moments later they saw many stones falling over a large area of scrub brush land that surrounds the small local villages. Bilanga is member of the HED achondrite (or vestan achondrites), is a breccia structurally, and classified as quite unusual magnesium-rich and calcium-poor diogenite, with oxygen isotopes slightly depleted in O17 in regard of other diogenites. Fragment - 7.78 g - 26 x 20 x 13 mm scale cube is 1 x 1 x 1 cm International meteorite collector association member number #3503 !!! This auction ends on Thursday, December 18th.
