Bitossi - Aldo Londi - Vase - Conical vase with a globular body

Bitossi - Aldo Londi - Vase - Conical vase with a globular body

This stunning glazed ceramic vase is a rare Mid-Century Modern piece from the 1960s. It belongs to the famous Rimini Blu collection, imagined and designed by the Italian maestro Aldo Londi (1911-2003) for the prestigious Bitossi Ceramiche manufacturing in Montelupo Fiorentino, Italy. Inspired by the shimmering reflections and hues of the Adriatic Sea along the Romagna Riviera, this timeless series has been produced since the late 1950s, but this vase was created in the 1960s. Form & Silhouette: • Collection & Rarity: This major piece belongs to the legendary “Rimini Blu” series. It is a rare and highly sought-after model that stands out from classic cylindrical productions with its bold conical silhouette and its superb two-tone variation, pairing a deep turquoise blue with contrasting emerald green bands. Its shape and design, with a remarkably structured silhouette combining a very generous low globular body and a wide, flared conical neck, makes this vase even rarer. * Material & Technique: Earthenware glazed ceramic (stuccoed white earthenware, providing a raw texture to the touch beneath the glaze). * Decoration technique: The geometric rhythmic decoration and the friezes of stylized flowers are hand-punched (stamped) on the clay while still fresh. The colored accents are applied before the famous crystalline glaze “Rimini Blu” is fired. During firing, the glaze pools in the hollows of the reliefs, creating stunning contrasts and deep reflections characteristic of the brand. The interior features a beautiful blue and white speckled effect. Decoration & Colors: The vase bears the emblematic “Rimini Blu” glaze, a deep and vibrant turquoise blue, here enhanced by rare wide emerald green bands and touches of acid yellow. The crystalline glaze offers intense shine and a gorgeous visual depth under light. Association ideas and style: This vase with a strong sculptural character fits perfectly into contemporary interiors. It pairs wonderfully with: * Teak or rosewood modular furniture typical of Scandinavian / Mid-Century style. * Boho chic or modernized Mediterranean style decor. * A collection of 50s/60s/70s ceramics (Vallauris, Fat Lava) to create a very sought-after accumulation effect for decorators. The 6th photo will help you envision it in an interior setting. Detailed specifications: - Era: Circa 1960. - Origin: Italy (Montelupo Fiorentino) - Dimensions: * Height: 26 cm. * Width: 16 cm at the widest point and 8 cm at the narrowest. * Diameter of the neck: 12.5 cm. * Weight: 1.620 kg - Material: Ceramic / Glazed earthenware. The whole piece is covered with a glossy crystalline glaze. - Style: This vase is Mid-Century Modern in style (the modernism of the 1950s-1960s), with a strong Mediterranean and artisanal influence. - Signature & Marking: The piece bears no handwritten signature nor printed mark on the base, which is quite normal and typical for Bitossi productions of that era. In the 1960s, these ceramics were mainly identified by a simple paper label that has faded or peeled over time. The underside shows the brand’s characteristic dark glaze, and the unique frieze style and the glaze unique to Aldo Londi undeniably certify the authenticity of this vase. - Condition: Excellent condition. The vase retains all its original brilliance, the glaze’s shine, and the intensity of its blue and green colors. No cracks, no chips. Note a tiny enamel loss (firing flaw) at the upper edge on the neck (see the last photo). This detail is very minor, visually discreet, and does not affect the durability or superb aesthetic of this collectible piece. Some normal interior wear marks. (See photos that are part of the description). - Shipping: Careful and highly secure shipping (Double new cartons, thick new bubble wrap). Signature on delivery and tracking number provided. The price of our shipments includes insurance, packing costs, pick-up, and signature on delivery, and is determined based on the package weight, the object value, and destination. - WITHIN the EU: Shipping via Colissimo-La Poste in the European Union. Other carriers available upon request (any extra costs, if any, will be charged to the buyer). - OUTSIDE the EU: Shipment only via Colissimo/La Poste outside the European Union; however, if you wish to use a different carrier than La Poste outside the EU this is possible but will require a new calculation and thus an additional cost that can be significant depending on the package characteristics, the object, and the country, which will be charged to the buyer.
