Boch Frères - Emile Diffloth - Vase - Ceramic - Art Nouveau Catteau

Exceptional Art Nouveau vase designed in the Boch Frères Keramis workshops under the direction of Charles Catteau in collaboration with Émile Diffloth. Émile Auguste Diffloth (1856-1933)* is a ceramist who designed exceptional Art Nouveau ceramics; worldwide known for his development of innovative glazes, particularly crystalline glazes and metallic and iridescent finishes. * Émile Diffloth (1856-1933): French ceramist born in Couleuvre. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. In 1899 he became artistic director of Keramis, Boch Frères. In 1910 he moved to University City, Missouri to work as a ceramic instructor at the School of Ceramic Art. Later he returned to France, where he belonged to the Société des Artistes Français. At the 1929 Salon de Société des Artistes Français he was awarded a gold medal. His work was exhibited in the Galliéra Museum in Paris. The vase is decorated with a stylized floral motif (characteristic Art Nouveau irises or lilies) with flowing, organic lines. It is a so‑called lustre glaze (metallique). This gives the ceramic an iridescent, metallic sheen in copper, bronze and gold tones. A bulbous base tapering to a narrow neck, a gold-colored collar and four distinctive ears (handles) flowing seamlessly into the body. At the bottom stamped with the inscription B.F.K, 1 and the number 444 printed, corresponding to the series of iridescent decors. The pressed model number 444 confirms the early dating of the vase. This specific number belongs to the exclusive Art Nouveau forms introduced between 1899 and 1905 at the La Louvière factory for the series with metallic and iridescent lustre glazes. At the bottom the inscription B.F.K, 1. This corresponds to Boch Frères Keramis, first iridescent decor series 444. This series, published in 1901 in collaboration with Emile Diffloth, is mentioned in a special catalog issued for the cooperation of the ceramist and the Boch Frères company. The vase is in excellent overall condition. Rare piece. D: 14.5 cm H: 15 cm W: 600 g Shipping costs may vary depending on the destination country. Please inquire in advance for information!!
