Boston, Massachusetts. Shoe & Leather Dealers Bank. 1863 $20. PCGS

Boston, Massachusetts. Shoe & Leather Dealers Bank. 1863 $20. PCGS Currency Very Fine 30 Apparent. Hole Punch Cancelled; Minor Rust Stains on Back. No. 2061. Plate F. Chartered in 1836, the Shoe & Leather Dealers Bank offers a title that speaks to the prominence of the shoemaking industry in New England. Genuine notes on this institution are nonetheless hard to find, but they do offer a particularly pleasing composition as evidenced by this mid-grade $20 issued during the 1860s. Here the Shoe and Leather Dealers building on the Boston Waterfront accounts for the primary focus of the design while penned signatures attributable to Cashier Samuel Carr and President Caleb Stetson may be noticed along with a total of (7) rounded POCs. This institution ultimately became the Shoe and Leather National Bank of Boston (Charter# 646) in 1864. PCGS Currency comments "Minor Rust Stains on Back." Estimate: $800 - $1,200. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Earlier from Eric P. Newman Collection.
