Bowl - cloisonné - Come, colorful goldfish

Extremely beautiful and globe-shaped Chinese cloisonné decorative bowl, manufactured in the second half of the twentieth century and dating from around 1960–1980. This potpourri pot is handmade in one of the traditional artisanal workshops in China for the Western export market. The object is constructed from a copper base on which very precisely thin copper wires have been soldered. The resulting compartments are filled with vibrantly colored glass enamel paste, after which the bowl has been carefully fired, smoothed, and fitted with gold-fired details on the exposed metal wires and edges. Both the interior and exterior of the bowl display rich and deep symbolism from Chinese culture. The inside is decorated with colorful goldfish swimming among stylized water plants and waves on a bright blue background, symbolizing abundance and happiness. Directly beneath the gilded inner rim is a continuous motif of pink ruyi heads, which symbolize the fulfillment of all your wishes. The exterior shows a lush floral decor of peonies and magnolia blossoms against a background of fine-meshed, gold-colored cloud circles. This specific combination of flowers forms the traditional blessing Yutang Fugui, which stands for a home filled with wealth and honor. The bowl has a diameter of 17.5 centimeters, a height of 5.5 centimeters, and weighs 535 grams. The underside is finished with an even, matte blue enamel within the brass stand ring and contains no impressed maker’s mark, which is typical for authentic export pieces from this period. The object is in excellent and pristine vintage condition without deep dents, cracks, or notable enamel damage, with only a few minimal, characteristic imperfections from the authentic firing process.
