Box - Exotic scene Cherub/Lion - .800 silver - Snuff - Trinket Jewellery

Elegant French Silver Snuff / Trinket/ Jewellery Box with Exotic Scene – Import Mark “Swan” (800 Silver) A refined and highly decorative French silver box, crafted in solid 800 silver and bearing the official French import hallmark “Swan” (poinçon de cygne), used from the late 19th century onwards to guarantee silver purity for imported works. The box features a beautifully shaped rococo-inspired form, richly decorated with engraved and repoussé ornamentation. The lid is particularly striking, depicting a charming and unusual exotic scene: a putto (cherub) holding a parasol, seated upon a lion, set against a landscape with palm trees, birds, and a distant architectural skyline. This imaginative composition reflects the fascination with exoticism and colonial themes typical of the late 19th Century decorative arts. The interior retains traces of original gilding (vermeil), adding warmth and contrast to the silver exterior. The hinged lid closes correctly and the piece remains in good condition with minor signs of use consistent with age. Originally intended as a snuff box, this elegant object can equally serve today as a pill box, jewellery holder, or refined decorative piece. A charming and collectible silver box, ideal for a refined table setting, a wedding-themed collection, or as a unique Wedding gift to put the rings .
