Box regulator clock - Antique Wood, Enamel, Porcelain - 1880-1920

Box regulator clock - Antique Wood, Enamel, Porcelain - 1880-1920

Beautifully crafted antique regulator wall clock from Germany, probably manufactured around 1890 to 1905. The clock is executed in Gründerzeit, neorenaissance style and features a richly decorated wooden case with turned columns, ornaments and a characteristic crown with a decorative mask head at the center. The clock has a mechanical eight-day movement with separate going train and striking work. The two winding holes are located in the dial. The striking sounds on multiple gong rods. The light dial has Roman numerals and gracefully shaped black hands. The original aging is clearly visible in the form of crazing and some hairlines in the dial. This fits the age of the clock and contributes to its authentic character. The clock has a special multi-part metal pendulum. In the pendulum there is a decorative insert with the markings R and A, Retard and Advance, for regulating the running speed. Features - Period, circa 1890 to 1905. - Origin, presumably Germany. - Style, Gründerzeit, neorenaissance, Wiener Regulator style. - Case material, wood, probably walnut wood or walnut veneer. - Movement, mechanical. - Running time, about 8 days. - Winding, two winding points. - Striking, mechanical striking on multiple gong rods. - Pendulum, decorative multi-part metal pendulum with R and A regulation. - Dial, light dial with Roman numerals. Condition The clock is in good and largely complete condition for its age. The wooden case shows normal signs of use and aging. The dial has crazing and some hairlines. See the detail photos. The glass, the pendulum, the decorative crown and the important case ornaments are present. The movement shows normal signs of age and wear. The top has a small broken piece (see photo). Original key present. Because the maker’s mark is not visible without further disassembly, the clock is offered without a definitive attribution to a manufacturer.
