Breguet - 'Type XXI Transatlantique' - 18 Carat Solid...

Welcome to my Top Swiss Chronographs Boutique! Breguet dates to 1775, when Abraham-Louis Breguet established his watchmaking firm in Paris. A-L Breguet is now regarded as the single most influential watchmaker of all time. During his lifetime, Breguet pioneered many watchmaking techniques, as well as what is considered to be the world's first wristwatch in 1810. There aren't many watchmakers who have a reputation for simultaneously producing delicate, understated dress watches and powerhouse luxury tool watches quite like Breguet. And more power to them, as this characterful Transatlantique Type XX Flyback is in a league of its own. Somehow, this 39.5mm chronograph with its bezel and supersized personality has captured the essence of Breguet's refined dress watches with nuances throughout that connect the dots between the two. The fluted coin-edge case body and the charismatic executions of dial furniture have made this cohesion possible. This demonstrates that although this tool watch on paper is worlds away from a dress watch, they're undoubtedly singing from the same hymn sheet. Now, that's one hell of a testament to Breguet's ability. Breguet Type XX was designed in the 50's for the French naval air army and all chronographs within this collection are fitted with a flyback mechanism that is labeled by Breguet in French language as 'retour en vol', flyback in English. Breguet 3810BR929ZU is a golden version of the Breguet Type XX Transatlantique — one of the more sought-after “neo-vintage” pilot chronographs from Breguet. It sits in the period where Breguet revived the military-inspired Type XX design and mixed historical aviation styling with a more modern automatic movement. Breguet introduced the Type XXI 3810 in 2004, marking the 50th anniversary of the modern Type XX. Its design continues the company’s line of aviation chronographs, which traces its origins to watches supplied to French military aviation in the 1950s. The defining innovation of the Type XXI was the use of two centrally mounted chronograph hands: - A conventional long hand records chronograph seconds. - A second central hand records elapsed minutes on the outer 60-minute scale. This arrangement is considerably easier to read than a traditional 30-minute subdial. The space at three o’clock was therefore available for a 24-hour day/night indicator. Breguet described this layout in its original presentation of the model. Original Type XXI presentation The rose-gold version followed shortly after the first Type XXI 3810 models. Known examples are dated 2006, 2008, 2009, 2015, and later. It was a regular-production model rather than a numbered limited edition.
