Notes: Sir Charles Wolseley 7th Bt ( 1769-1846) Sir Charles was educated from the age of 10 at Westminster school in London. He became actively involved in the movement for Parliamentary reform, becoming so vocal, it resulted in a court case- The King v Sir Charles Wolseley. Sir Charles was fined one thousand pounds and sentenced too 18 months in Abingdon Gaol and a five-year behaviour bond. Sir Charles fought many battles, with the coming of the railways and refusing access to his land, banning the burning of the guy on his land on the 5th of November in support of Catholics and also personal tragedies in the loss of a number of his children. He made great changes to the beautiful Tudor manor house, creating a controversial more gothic look, which was subsequently altered by later generations. Sir Charles had a great interest in religion, writing pamphlets on Catholicism and the Bible. He eventually converted to Catholicism. Sir Charles died of dropsy and was buried with many of his ancestors in Colwich church. Condition: The painting has been relined, under glass, unexamined out of frame, small losses to the frame.
