This Breda sugar spoon from 1831 was made by Widow Willem van Gastel, who continued the business after her husband’s death in 1824. The object is an early 19th-century example of Dutch table silver and shows large dimensions, indicating use in large households. - Marks: year letter W (1831), master mark (VG with four-point star in countermark), Dutch lion (2nd quality), Minerva head (Breda). - Dimensions: Length 25.5 cm, width 7.2 cm. - Weight: 30 grams. - Condition: Excellent. - Art-historical context: Sugar sprinkling spoons like these were indispensable for serving desserts in bourgeois households.
