Centrepiece - .925 silver - Dragon engraved interior

Grand English commemorative cup in sterling silver 925, made in the early years of the XX century and datable to around 1902. The object presents a strong poly-lobed structure with a striking visual impact, enriched by refined hand-hammered panels with floral motifs in the British Arts & Crafts / Art Nouveau taste. The stylized side handles and the four spherical feet give the composition an extremely elegant and uncommon sculptural character. Particularly rare and fascinating is the inner bottom completely engraved with a serpent-like creature/dragon immersed among stylized waves, a decorative detail of strong symbolist and neo-Celtic taste that makes the piece very different from ordinary English silverware of the period. The upper rim bears original hand-engraved commemorative inscriptions, including the inscription: “The King’s Birthday 1902” as well as era dedication initials, an element that suggests a probable celebratory or institutional British patronage.
