Certina Argonaut 220 – Beautiful Blue Dial – Manual Wind – 1970–1979 An attractive vintage Certina Argonaut 220 from the 1970s, distinguished by its bold geometric case and beautiful deep-blue dial. Its striking orange-red central seconds hand adds a sporty contrast, while the unusual cushion-shaped construction captures the adventurous design language of the period. At its heart is Certina’s respected manual-wind in-house calibre 25-66—a traditional Swiss mechanical movement that gives this watch genuine horological character. Technical Details Brand: Certina Model: Argonaut 220 Period: 1970–1979 Movement: Swiss mechanical, manual winding Calibre: Certina in-house 25-66 Functions: Hours, minutes and central seconds Case: Stainless steel Dimensions: Approximately 39 × 34 mm, excluding crown Crystal: Acrylic glass Dial: Beautiful original-style blue dial with baton markers and contrasting orange-red seconds hand Strap: Generic black leather strap with contrasting stitching Wrist size: Suitable for wrists up to approximately 21 cm Box: Generic presentation box Water resistance: Not tested Condition Report Grade B – Vintage condition with visible signs of use consistent with age. The stainless-steel case and case back show scratches, marks and surface wear, while the dial remains attractive and presents a rich blue colour. The acrylic crystal may display light age-related marks that can usually be polished if desired. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. Water resistance has not been tested; therefore, contact with water should be avoided. Story & Heritage Certina has long been admired for producing reliable Swiss watches designed for active everyday use. During the 1970s, traditional round cases gave way to bolder, more architectural forms, and the Argonaut 220 is a fine expression of that creative period. Its broad steel case, vivid blue dial and bright seconds hand give it the appearance of an instrument created for an era of exploration. Winding the in-house calibre 25-66 by hand creates a direct connection between wearer and mechanism—a small daily ritual that modern watches rarely offer. A characterful vintage Certina for collectors who appreciate distinctive 1970s styling, honest patina and authentic Swiss mechanical watchmaking. Internal Reference Number - Ctm. 201
