Ceylon tea planter during the First World War.- Thomas (Edward Hector Le Marchant, manager of the family tea estate at Galliheria [Galheria], Madulkelle, Ceylon, soldier, fought in the Boer War and Temporary Captain in the 9th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, based at Rugeley Camp, Staffordshire, 1867-1946) Copy Letter book to various members of the Thomas family, including his brother Jocelyn Hume Thomas, much relating to the estate at Galliheria in Ceylon, manuscript, 77pp., on flimsy paper, last letter defective with loss, other ff. creased, stained and browned, a few pieces of correspondence loosely inserted, original cloth-backed wrappers, lower cover with small tear, 4to, 1916-21. *** "1921... My dear Roche, I have forwarded to you... a packet of samples of Galliherea tea... . These samples will demonstrate, the different grades, as made on the estate, and sold on the market." - EHL Thomas. Thomas married Geraldine Blake (1907-65), sculptress.
