Chair - Steel, Chrome - Two chairs

Two exceptional vintage design lounge chairs with a chrome finish – in the style of Gastone Rinaldi / RIMA – presumably from the 1970s For sale is an extraordinary pair of chromed design lounge chairs, presumably from the 1970s, whose elegant shaping and characteristic construction show clear parallels to the designs of the renowned Italian designer Gastone Rinaldi (1920–2006) for the manufacturer RIMA. The two chairs come from an inheritance and have remained together as a pair in private ownership since their transfer. According to the information available, they probably date from the 1970s. Design and execution The chairs impress with their extraordinarily delicate yet expressive design. Particularly characteristic are the continuous, gracefully curved metal bars that connect the seat and backrest into a harmonious unit. The glossy chromed steel frame, the slightly reclined, high backrest, and the distinctive curved swivel-free construction give the chairs a timeless, almost sculptural appearance. The clear lines and reduced formal language reflect the experimental design of European furniture design from the 1960s and 1970s. The design especially recalls the innovative metal furniture of the Italian designer Gastone Rinaldi, whose designs for RIMA are today appreciated by lovers and collectors of classic design furniture. Origin and attribution The chairs come from a private inheritance and, due to their design and the transmitted dating, are assigned to the 1970s. There is no manufacturer's signature or label available. This is not unusual for historical design furniture, but it does not allow for unequivocal identification. Because of the striking structural and stylistic similarities, an attribution to Gastone Rinaldi or to the manufacturer RIMA is possible. A definitive authentication has not yet been made. Condition The two chairs are in a well-kept vintage condition that corresponds to their assumed age. The chromed surfaces show age- and wear-related signs, isolated scratches, and minor surface changes. The overall condition can be seen in the attached original photographs. Special features An exceptional pair of chairs, impressive for their rarely seen form, the delicate metal construction, and their elegant chrome look. Whether as a stylish addition to a modern living interior, as an accent in a mid-century setup, or as an interesting object for lovers of historic design furniture – these two lounge chairs combine timeless aesthetics with a distinctive design presence. Both chairs are offered together as a pair. B
