Since the discovery of the mysterious manuscript containing the recipe for the elixir of life, an early version of the elixir was produced in the Vauvert monastery in Paris until 1737. From then until 1864, the Vegetal Elixir was elaborated in the pharmacy of the Grande Chartreuse monastery, where Father Jerome Maubec defined the first recipe in 1764, adding sugar and lowering the alcohol content, working towards the green colour.
