Chest of drawers - Wood - Japan

Showa-era Kaidan Tansu Step Chest – Japanese Style Cabinet, 【Description】 A characterful Japanese-style kaidan tansu, or step chest, likely dating to the late 20th century and inspired by traditional Showa-period forms. With its sculptural stepped silhouette, warm red-brown finish, and dark decorative hardware, it brings both storage and strong visual presence to an interior. **Classic Kaidan Form** The ascending architectural profile recalls traditional Japanese staircase chests, combining practical storage with a highly decorative silhouette. Its compact proportions make it especially versatile in smaller spaces. **Decorative Hardware** The drawer fronts are fitted with dark metal-style drop handles and corner mounts that give the piece a robust, chest-like appearance. These details contrast attractively with the reddish lacquered-style surfaces. **Mixed Storage Layout** The composition appears to include several drawers in varying sizes together with central sliding-door storage. The stepped upper surfaces also offer useful space for displaying ceramics, books, or small collectibles. **Warm Traditional Finish** The deep red-brown and black tonal finish evokes the look of classic Japanese cabinetry while remaining easy to place in Japandi, wabi-inspired, eclectic, or collector-focused interiors. It works well as a side cabinet, hallway accent, or decorative storage piece. **Materials and Presence** Appears to be made of wood or wood-based construction with a polished stained and lacquered-style finish, fitted with decorative dark hardware. The overall design has a sculptural quality that makes it decorative even when not in use. 【Condition】 Overall in good vintage decorative condition, with light visible wear consistent with age and use. Minor scuffs, small edge marks, and gentle rubbing to the finish are visible in places, particularly around corners and step edges. The finish remains attractive overall, and the piece appears structurally sound from the visible exterior. Please review the detailed photos carefully before bidding. 【Period】 Probably late 20th century, in the style of Showa-era Japanese kaidan tansu
