A 12-inch vinyl single titled Children of Eden (A New Single) featuring Shezwae Powell, Frances Ruffelle, and Company. This record was released in 1990 by London Records and FFRR Records Ltd. in the United Kingdom under catalog numbers LONX 285 and INT 869 261-1. The release served as a promotional and charity recording in advance of the 1991 West End premiere of the musical Children of Eden at the Prince Edward Theater, with proceeds benefiting the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Fund. The musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by John Caird. The front cover displays a black and white group portrait of children photographed by Andrew Robinson, while the reverse provides production credits, a full cast list, and portraits of lead performers Shezwae Powell and Frances Ruffelle photographed by Ben Ingham. Side One features the title track performed by Powell and Ruffelle. Side Two includes an orchestral version of Children of Eden and an instrumental version of Stranger to the Rain, both performed by the Children of Eden Orchestra.
