Situated in North Texas close to the border with Oklahoma, Clarksville was once home to five different National Banks with the earliest of these institutions organizing in 1889. Come 1930, the Red River National Bank (Charter# 13428) succeeded the original Red River National Bank (Charter# 4982) from 1894 and assumed its circulation followed by the First National Bank of Avery (Charter# 10638) in 1932. Despite the prominence of the reorganized Red River National Bank in local banking affairs, notes issued by this institution are quite scarce as the National Bank Note Census records a total of 21 non-institutional notes including a small handful of Serial Number 1 T1 $20s like the present lot which time and again have proven to be popular with collectors when presented at auction or within a similar context.
