The custom of presenting a diamond ring upon engagement has been documented since the late Middle Ages. However, this hardest of all gemstones was an absolute rarity and almost exclusively the privilege of the nobility. It was not until abundant deposits were discovered in South Africa in the late 19th century that a somewhat broader segment of society could afford diamond jewellery. The classic solitaire ring—that is, a ring with a single diamond—is said to date back to a design by the famous jeweler Tiffany & Co. from 1886. To this day, this style of ring has remained the epitome of the engagement ring: it embodies all the symbolism one would expect from a piece of jewellery that symbolizes a promise. This solitaire ring was crafted here in Berlin on our behalf. The brilliant-cut diamond weighs 1.30 carats and is in H colour. It has only tiny natural inclusions that are barely visible even under a loupe (VVS2) and exhibits very good brilliance thanks to its very good proportions. We have sustainably crafted the ring with its classic prong setting in platinum: Both the diamond and the platinum used in the ring are repurposed—they are reused historical materials. Two independent appraisals of the piece of jewellery are included with the ring. We love this design because it clearly and effectively showcases the beautiful diamond.
