Beautiful jewelry box in Black Forest style, handmade carved wood dating from the late 19th century. The lid is topped with a bird carved in the round, perched on oak foliage. The box features sharp geometric moldings, a central lock escutcheon, and rests on four elaborately carved feet characteristic of the folk art of this region. Although this style is named « Black Forest », the vast majority of these high-quality pieces in walnut or limewood were made by master sculptors from the Brienz region in Switzerland. The interior of this box reveals an original blue silk or satin upholstery designed to protect jewelry or precious items from scratches.
