In this ring from our workshop, sparkling white diamonds surround an opal. Cut into an oval cabochon, the stone from Australia shines in all the colours of the rainbow. Red, yellow and green sparks glow above a milky white body, depending on the angle from which you look at it. Two more diamonds lead to the ring band on the right and left. In total, more than half a carat of brilliant cut diamonds are gathered together. The stones are set in high-carat gold with a slightly reddish sheen. This gives the ring a beautiful warm colour. We designed the ring based on rings from the 1890s. The diamond cluster motif was very fashionable at the time, as was jewellery with opals. Diamonds came onto the market in large quantities from South Africa for the first time, while opals from Australia reached Europe towards the end of the century. The design language of those years therefore seemed appropriate for the combination of both gemstones: the delicate settings, which are completely restrained in relation to the gemstones, and the warm colour of the gold are typical of jewellery from those years. The diamonds in this ring are vintage stones, which we use here in second use to make the ring as sustainable as possible. The gold is also recycled from pieces of jewellery that we were unfortunately unable to restore. In this ring, together with a newly cut opal, they have been given a new lease of life.
