CORNEILLE (Pierre). — *Le Cid*, a tragedy. Brie-Comte-Robert, Les Bibliolâtres de France, Les Minimes, 1946. In-4, loose-leaf, with a printed endpaper, hardcover and publisher’s slipcase covered in beige paper, spine of the cover in brown cloth, title label pasted onto the front cover. A beautiful bibliophile edition reproducing the latest edition of *Le Cid* revised by Corneille, that of 1682. The typesetting deliberately emulates the old-style typography: title page, headers, initial letters, and footers reproduced in the spirit of the 17th-century edition. The 1946 edition is properly cataloged as published by the Bibliolâtres de France. The colophon specifies that this is the first bibliophile print run, set in old Elzevir type, 14-point size, on Arches and Holland paper, followed by a second print run on pure “Trois Fleurs de lin” rag paper from the Papeteries du Marais. Printing was completed on April 21, 1946, by E. Baudelot, 41 Avenue Reille in Paris. Copy No. 1571, specially printed for Jean Combet, personalized, on pure linen paper from the Papeteries du Marais. The “PUR FIL MARAIS” dry watermark is clearly visible on several pages. The presence of personalized copies is characteristic of this printing: other personalized copies are currently or have previously been documented on the market. The text reproduces the 1682 Paris edition published by Guillaume de Luyne, Estienne Loyson, and Pierre Trabouillet, the final version revised by Corneille. A bookseller’s catalog specifically documents this feature of this edition of *Les Bibliolâtres*. A fine copy preserved in loose sheets with all margins intact, comprising the complete editorial set. A few slight marks and minor signs of wear on the cover and slipcase; the interior is fresh. The cover and some leaves show very slight signs of handling, which are not significant.
