Crucifix - Brass - 1880-1920 - Elegant standing crucifix - 28 cm

Elegant standing crucifix – gold-colored brass with rich relief and decorative base A characterful religious object with a warm sheen and a particularly graceful silhouette. This standing crucifix draws the eye with the outward-angled arms, refined ornamentation and the three-dimensionally worked Christ figure. The arms of the cross are decorated with stylized leaf and scroll motifs in relief. Dark-toned elevations let the gold-colored ornaments stand out nicely. The expanded ends with profiled edges give the cross a powerful, balanced form. Centered is the separately attached Christ figure, with bowed head, outstretched arms and a draped loincloth. Above the figure sits the traditional inscription INRI on a small cartouche: the Latin abbreviation for “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” The cross rests on a round, outward-flaring foot where the ornament returns. A decorative leaf border along the underside completes the design. This type of standing cross fits within the tradition of altar and devotion crosses. A atmospheric collectible for lovers of religious art, or a meaningful accent on a console, in a niche, or at a home altar.
