A remarkable and richly decorated cruciform pendant, displaying a captivating combination of multicoloured glass-like ornamentation and sculptural metalwork, evocative of the artistic traditions of the Byzantine Empire. The pendant features an unusual four-armed cross, its gently curving and expanding arms formed by raised metal partitions. These divisions create a series of decorative compartments filled with brilliant contrasting colours, including deep cobalt blue, golden amber, ivory white, earthy green and reddish brown. The composition recalls the celebrated tradition of Byzantine cloisonné enamelwork, a sophisticated decorative technique in which coloured vitreous materials were arranged within metal compartments to create luminous religious and ornamental designs. At the centre, the four arms meet in a compact cruciform arrangement.
