First Volume. Paris: De l’imprimerie de Crapelet / Chez Maradan, an VI [1798] xxxvi+252 pp contemporary leather binding (19.5x12.5 cm; corners dented, small piece missing from the back cover); watermark on the bottom of endpapers and title page; = FIRST edition! & IDEM Second Volume. Paris: Richard, Caille et Ravier, an VII [Sept 1798] (4)+403+(1) pp; contemporary leather binding (20x13 cm, small defect at the top of the spine; wormhole on the front cover); page 81 torn slightly at the outer margin (no text loss); ink note on page 177 at the top; Philippe Pinel is regarded as the ‘father of modern psychiatry’; in Part II a significant chapter on “névroses”!
