Grand Bronze Casting "Smoker Scugnizzo" - After a model by Giovanni De Martino (1870-1935) - Signed Splendid, expressive and fascinating antique bronze patinated sculpture depicting one of the most celebrated and sought-after subjects of Neapolitan sculpture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: the "Smoker Scugnizzo", executed from the famous model by master Giovanni De Martino. The work is distinguished by excellent workmanship and high-level engraving, visible in the extraordinary natural rendering of the facial expression, in the detail of the cigarette, the chain with medal and crucifix, and in the vibrant plasticity of the hair. On the rear edge is present the contemporaneous signature of the author. The sculpture rests on a square base in precious marble of exquisite craftsmanship, which slenders the figure and enhances its elegance. Although placed within the tradition of De Martino's models, the piece captures collectors' attention for the freshness of the casting and the care of the details, elements that elevate it to a work of great value and representativeness and leave open the concrete possibility of encountering an original period specimen or a very early casting from the master’s foundry. It is a strongly cinematic work, a piece of great character capable of imparting immediate prestige, value, and warmth to any exhibition context or private collection. The bronze comes from an illustrious family heritage, a stewardship that guarantees its rightful provenance and historicity. The work is in excellent overall condition. It preserves a magnificent and genuine patina of time, smooth and even, which emphasizes its volumes. The normal and minimal signs of age merely attest to its authenticity and historical charm as shown in the photos.
