Dansk Design - Jens Harald Quistgaard - Tealight holder...

An Absolute Icon of Scandinavian Mid-Century Design Bring the sculptural elegance of vintage Nordic design into your environment. Designed in 1962 by the celebrated Danish master Jens H. Quistgaard, the Spider candle holder (Model JHQ / 12 holes) is one of the most iconic and sought-after objects in Dansk Designs' range. Its radial star silhouette, inspired by the organic and atomic shapes typical of the Space Age / Mid-Century era, transforms simple raw cast iron into a minimalist, functional sculpture masterwork. Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919–2008) was a sculptor and head designer at Dansk Designs for over thirty years. Quistgaard was a key figure in establishing Scandinavian style in the United States and around the world. His works are displayed in the most prestigious design museums, including MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York and the Louvre in Paris. Dansk Designs was founded in 1954 by American entrepreneur Ted Nierenberg and Quistgaard himself. The company has won international awards for innovation in the use of noble materials such as cast iron, teak wood, and stainless steel. On the back of the candle holder the original Dansk Designs Denmark IHQ hallmark is clearly impressed (the author’s acronym of Jens Harald Quistgaard). Collectors know well how difficult it is to find this piece complete with its original black era box marked Dansk Designs / Made in Denmark, a feature that significantly increases its commercial and collectible value. When it houses its 12 slender candles (tiny tapers), it creates a warm and evocative atmosphere, serving as a perfect sculptural centerpiece even when not lit. A Danish design classic increasingly appreciated on the antiquarian and international auction market.
