Description of the work Edition in three volumes of The Divine Comedy, printed in 1971 in Paris by Jean de Bonnot editions, in a small octavo format (24 × 16 cm). Each volume is bound in full high-quality red morocco, adorned on the covers and spines with a rich cold-stamped decorative motif, enhanced with gold fillets, with the title and volume numbers in gilt letters. The top edges are entirely gilded, while the flyleaves, in red and gold marbled paper, extend the decoration harmoniously. A finely edged red ribbon bookmark completes each volume, and the exposed doublures convey careful stitching. The condition of this set is absolutely perfect: supple leather with no scratch, flawless corners and headcaps, brilliant and untouched edges. The interiors feature ivory pages of great freshness, no trace of foxing or halo, indicating meticulous preservation. The volumes, as a whole, exude an impression of elegance and prestige, worthy of a scholar’s library. The work Masterpiece of medieval literature, The Divine Comedy (written between 1307 and 1321) is the epic poem of the Christian soul, in three canticles: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. In Italian verse, Dante describes his initiatory journey through the realm of the damned, the mountain of penitence, and the celestial spheres, guided successively by the poet Virgil and then by Beatrice. A true theological and political allegory, the work fuses sublime poetry with a profound reflection on divine justice, the salvation of the soul, and the human condition. This Jean de Bonnot edition pays homage to the monumental nature of the text with a luxurious presentation, at once sober and rich, aimed at lovers of art and belles lettres.
