Raise-Up Metalworks, based on the Heiligerleelaan in Rotterdam, made model airplanes for major airlines to promote their travel agencies. Their worldwide sales agents were The N. Defilippes Company, Plane Model division, in New York. Raise Up specialized in all-metal commercial aircraft models, manufactured in various scales. Their customers included KLM, for whom they produced models of their Lockheed Electra, Super Constellation, DC-8 and Vickers Viscount aircraft, Lufthansa (Boeing 707, DC-8), Swissair (Convair 990, DC-8), Ethiopian Airlines (Boeing 707) and many others. The last model was produced around 1964. In 1967 or 1968, the company was taken over by Matthys Verkuyl, and part of the Raise Up staff moved from Rotterdam to Verkuyl's workshop in Badhoevedorp. The famous DC-8 was officially announced in July 1955. The first flight took place at the end of 1957, and it entered service in 1959. The Douglas DC8-32 was delivered to Swiss Air in early 1961. They purchased three of these aircraft. The 32 series was the extended-range intercontinental version of the original DC8s (-10, -20 and 30 series), equipped with Pratt Whitney turbojet engines. The 32 had increased fuel capacity, a reinforced fuselage and landing gear. Around 57 of these aircraft were built.
