Antique Asian bamboo travel trunk - handwoven, with a brass clasp lock Japan (likely), ca. 1900-1930 Decorative antique travel trunk made of handwoven bamboo and rattan, with a fine herringbone- and diamond-pattern that runs across the entire lid and the back. The edge consists of half bamboo stalks bound with rattan bands. The case has two braided handles of wrapped rattan, attached with iron ring eyes. It closes with a brass swing clasp with a hinged cover plate. This construction (light, airy, and tightly woven) was typical for travel trunks from Japan and China, which around 1900-1930 were also sold in Europe.
