Decorative ornament - Europe - Mid-Century centerpiece

A distinctive and highly decorative mid-century centerpiece in an elegant boat shape, crafted from extremely thin, overlapping wooden veneers/veneer strips. The construction combines curved laminated wooden parts and light rattan-like reinforcements. The elongated form, gracefully rising ends, and characteristic fan-like bound wooden strips give the piece a striking sculptural and airy appearance. The refined construction makes it an attractive interior piece that reads well both up close and from a distance. Because of its shape, this object is particularly suitable as a decorative centerpiece on a dining table, console, sideboard, or kitchen island. It can also be used functionally as a fruit bowl or bread basket. The piece is exceptionally light for its size and rests on integrated curved wooden supports. The various wood- and rattan-like elements together form a beautiful example of the organic design characteristic of the Mid-Century era. An unusual and striking Mid-Century centerpiece in boat form, of which comparable pieces are offered only sporadically on the vintage design market.
