Indian headdress made with real feathers. An Indian headdress, often referred to as a feathered headdress or war bonnet, is a traditional headpiece worn by various Indigenous peoples of North America, particularly among Native American Plains tribes such as the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Crow. These headdresses typically worn to symbolize important achievements or social status. The most iconic of these headdresses are those adorned with long feathers, often eagle feathers, which are considered sacred in many Native American cultures. Each feather added to the headdress represents a specific accomplishment or act of bravery, such as acts of valor in battle or a significant leadership role within the community. It's important to recognize that headdresses are deeply meaningful and symbolic, and their use is a part of cultural and spiritual traditions. They are not to be worn as costumes or for fashion, as doing so without understanding the significance can be seen as disrespectful or inappropriate, as it trivializes a sacred part of Native American heritage.
