Natural pearls have been the crème de la crème in jewellery since ancient times - so great is the effort involved in fishing for them, so rare is the luck of recovering a pearl from the bottom of the ocean, that they have always been highly valued. Pearls for a necklace were usually purchased individually for reasons of cost; it often took a long time to collect a complete strand of matching pearls. The peak of the pearl craze was in the years around 1900, when natural pearls replaced all other precious stones in the favor of the ladies: The Deutsche Goldschmiede-Zeitung reported in 1910: "It is well known that pearls are the magic word today that makes the heart of every worldly lady beat faster, and pearls are increasingly pushing the red-hot rubies, the sparkling emeralds, even the flashing diamonds into the background." (Issue 45, 1910, p. 399). It was not until the worldwide marketing of cultured pearls around 1920 that pearl jewelry became more accessible in the way we know it today. However, a necklace made from genuine, natural oriental pearls was still incomparable to anything else. This necklace is made from genuine natural pearls. The more than 170 Oriental pearls are wonderfully "matched", i.e. they fit together perfectly in terms of color and size. The pearls are strung in a graduated pattern and are perfectly round to slightly elongated. Their color is a uniform creamy white with pink overlay, and their luster is good to very good. The surface shows very few growth marks. With a length of 40.5 cm, the necklace fits close to the neck and can therefore also be worn during the day with a soft cashmere sweater, for example. The clasp is set with diamonds in a modern brilliant cut and made of white gold; its shape is also inspired by pre-war Art Deco. We therefore believe that the necklace was created in the 1950s. The hallmark on the clasp indicates that it was made in Germany. The necklace is accompanied by an independent certificate confirming the authenticity of the pearls. It is supplied with the necklace.
