DENMARK. Penny, ND (1042-47). Århus Mint. Magnus I, "the Good" (Magnus den gode). NGC AU-50. Hauberg-33; Hauberg Collection-708; Bruun-1618 (illustrated plate 6); Weight: 0.74 gms. Moneyer: Lifsig. Two hairline splits in flan. Excessively rare and given the fact that the Hauberg example was acquired by the Coin Cabinet of Oslo, probably unique in private ownership. Although the design of the letters appears somewhat coarse and primitive compared to those seen from other mints, both the king's name and the name of the mint are fully legible, making this type of great historical and numismatic significance, as it is the only certain Aarhus type from Magnus. Estimate: €3,000 - €4,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer. Please see the Terms and Conditions. Click here for certification details from NGC.
