Dogon – Wooden ancestral figure – Mali – 45 cm – African...

A remarkable wooden sculpture of a standing human figure, originating from the Dogon culture in Mali, West Africa. The sculpture is characterized by an elongated, abstract form and a striking posture of the arms. The stylized proportions and restrained expression give the object a powerful, archaic appearance. The Dogon are known for their rich sculptural tradition, in which wooden figures play an important role in religious, ceremonial, and ancestral practices. The sculpture is said to have been hand-carved from a single piece of wood and rests on a hexagonal pedestal.
