Door knocker - 1940-1950 - door knocker

This object is a classic copper or brass ring door knocker (often referred to as a ring knocker or heurtoir) produced in a traditional or rustic style. The door knocker is characterized by a twisted ring (a so-called rope or twist motif) that is hung on a decorative, diamond-shaped mounting plate with relief. This type of hardware is used both as a functional door knocker for exterior doors and as a decorative pull on large antique cabinets and gates.
