Double Lukwakongo mask - Lega - DR Congo

This ovoid Lukwakongo mask (Lega) is particularly noteworthy for its ability to combine two faces, which is not common among masks of this type. Lega art is renowned for its simplicity combined with a surprising approach to the treatment of bodies and faces, all serving not only an aesthetic purpose but above all initiatory messages translated into aphorisms that only initiates understand.
