In earlier generations, anyone who wanted to own jewellery in the latest fashion rarely went to the jeweller to buy an already finished piece. Far more often the way led to the goldsmith, in order to have there after own ideas and in the exchange with the craftsman a new piece of jewellery made. A typical procedure of the time can be observed again and again: Instead of creating the new pieces completely from scratch, existing rings, brooches and necklaces were often included and reused in parts. This resulted in pieces that could be as traditional as they were modern. The present pair of earrings, for example, was created from a necklace of the years around 1860, which came to us in fragments which were then turned into these beautiful earrings in our workshop. The antique elements form two leaves from which a small flower grows. They are richly set with glittering cushion-shaped diamonds (also known as "old mine cut"). Here, the fronts are made of dark patinated silver, backed with gold. We have added bails of high karat gold to the elements and hung a drop-shaped briolet cut citrine from each. The pair thus delights with its beautiful movement, precious diamonds and autumnal warm glow.
