Alla auktioner / Diverse / École Espagnole (c. 1700) - Nature Morte du Lazarillo
- Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Restorations. - Just as the grape cluster episode in Lazarillo de Tormes and this naturalistic still life from the Golden Age share a deep concern with appearance, sensory deception, and the discovery of a transcendent truth veiled by everyday life, in the famous picaresque novel the grapes are the setting for a battle of perceptions where the master’s physical blindness contrasts with his intellectual acuity; the cluster becomes a lesson in suspicion, where reality is not what is superficially shown, but what is inferred beyond the veil of appearances. In Iberian painting of the Modern Age, the naturalistic still life operates under a philosophically akin principle. Translucent grape clusters, a peeled melon, and peaches sculpted by chiaroscuro are not mere formal delights, but a mystical and rational exploration of the concept of truth. Just as Zeuxis deceived the birds by painting hyperreal grapes, the Spanish Baroque painter uses optical illusion not only to fascinate the eye but to confront the viewer with the ephemeral nature of earthly things (the memento mori). Fruit in both manifestations — literary and pictorial — transcends its material condition to become an object of philosophical contemplation: a reminder that the true essence of Iberian art lies in unraveling the fragility, deception, and disenchantment that beat beneath the dazzling surface of the real. - Image dimensions without frame: 79 x 59 cm / 93 x 72 cm with exclusive custom frame. Thus, we guarantee that every work that leaves our gallery is a unique piece in the world, with no replicas, and a testament to the innovation and passion of the artists we work with. Certain lots, due to their age and value, require an export permit issued by the Ministry of Culture. Although this is an administrative procedure, it is indispensable to ensure the authenticity of the work and its free circulation internationally. Montbaron Gallery is committed to offering its clients original, unique, irrepeatable works of art, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of every piece in our collection. The Guarantee Certificate includes full details about the piece, such as author, creation date, technique used, and dimensions. The digital Guarantee Certificate will be issued upon the client’s request, providing an official reference for the purchased piece. This document will be sent in digital format and will be signed by a gallery art historian, ensuring its validity and backing.
