Elegant Art Nouveau Brooch With Natural Pearls & Enamel in Gold, Great

Nature was one of the major themes of Art Nouveau. In the years before the turn of the last century, the diverse forms of flora and fauna were an inexhaustible source of inspiration for jewellery designers. The increasingly industrialized world was to be juxtaposed with the forces of nature, the eternal cycle of growth and decay, through graceful animals and plants. This brooch exemplifies these aspirations and combines classic Art Nouveau motifs in a very small space. The piece is an elegant composition of two dynamic curves that oscillate between linear and plant forms in an interesting way. A flower unfolds in the center of the brooch, with a slightly baroque natural pearl shimmering in its calyx. Translucent enamel covers the petals and gives them a pastel play of colours in delicate shades of green and blue. The work was created in Great Britain. It is therefore not surprising that it found its way to us in London. The date and origin of the piece is confirmed not least by the gold stamp: 15-karat gold was only used in Great Britain until 1932. The well-preserved brooch is a harmonious piece of jewellery from the heyday of Art Nouveau that has lost none of its fascination to this day.
