When you think of sapphires, blue gemstones are usually the first thing that comes to mind. However, depending on the deposit and the elements involved in their formation, natural sapphires can come in nearly every colour of the rainbow. This platinum ring from our workshop features an extraordinary sapphire in a light pink shade with a very subtle hint of orange. It is a natural sapphire weighing 1.13 carats from Madagascar. The stone comes with a certificate describing it as a Padparadscha sapphire. The Padparadscha color is very light—perhaps too light for a classic Padparadscha—but still clearly recognizable. The transparent stone also features several natural inclusions that reflect light like tiny stars. The stone is framed by eleven brilliant-cut diamonds, while two additional diamonds on the right and left elegantly extend toward the ring band. The design is inspired by classic Belle Époque entourage rings, when gemstones surrounded by diamonds were among the most popular forms of jewelry. The diamonds in the ring are vintage stones that we have deliberately reused here to make the piece of jewellery as sustainable as possible. Likewise, the platinum used comes from older pieces of jewellery that could no longer be restored. This is the first time this sapphire has been incorporated into a piece of jewellery. Thus, the piece combines historical references with exceptional gemstones and a contemporary philosophy of sustainability and the reuse of precious materials.
