When this ring was created, its design was at the height of its time. The violet-blue gemstone in the center of the ring was first discovered in Tanzania in 1967. The following year, Tiffany's introduced these gemstones to the jewelry market as tanzanites, named after the place where they were found. The special feature of tanzanites is their blue-violet colour, which can change depending on the incidence of light. The round, faceted tanzanite of around 0.82 ct in the center of this piece of jewellery also has blue and lilac nuances depending on the incidence of light. It is accompanied by an entourage of diamonds that follow an unusual arrangement in an interplay of brilliant and baguette cuts. These pieces of jewellery are called "ballerina" rings after the resulting effect, as the diamonds look like a fanned-out, starched tutu made of white tulle. A total of around 0.60 ct of very good quality white diamonds are set around the tanzanite, intensifying the nuances of both gemstones in a two-tone effect. The stones are held in high-carat white gold, the most popular precious metal of the time. The ring in the glamorous, futuristic design language of the years around 1975 is in very good condition and came to us here in Berlin.
