Hello, I offer a perfectly preserved oil on canvas signed Emile-Marie BEAUME (1888-1967), a referenced and market-listed painter. The work depicts a forest road as a central perspective where the accompanying vegetation serves to guide the eye into the forest. Between light and vast natural space, the vanishing point of this road is highlighted by a corridor of foliage and trees; it is not merely a path toward an open horizon. This approach is typical of the work of the Impressionists. The sky appears through light whitish and bluish breaks through the treetop canopy, creating a clearing that is masked. The road and ruts are not uniform. Emile-Marie BEAUME materializes the muddy, damp texture by applying long vertical and oblique strokes of broken tones (beige, terre verte and gray-brown) that simulate ravines carved by water or by the passage of cart wheels. The mossy carpet represented by tufts of green in the foreground is treated with fragmented, juxtaposed touches of vivid greens and browns to convey the moisture of the forest floor. On the left, a trace of human life is visible by the heap of wood represented by dark horizontal strokes. On the right, dead branches on the ground form a tangle of white and gray broken lines catching light at ground level. The canvas has recently been cleaned by a professional, followed by the application of a satin UV-protective varnish by Winsor & Newton after fixing the Paraloid B-72. A restored old molded and gilded frame is in perfect, sturdy condition. This oil on canvas by Émile Marie BEAUME is a work of great sensitivity that demonstrates a flawless technical mastery. Thanks to its rigorous perspective construction and a palette skillfully contrasting the freshness of the moss with the warmth of ochred foliage, the painter manages to go beyond a simple landscape representation to offer a true sensory immersion. This painting stands as a collectible piece that is decorative, luminous, and representative of the talent of a landscape painter of the first half of the 20th century.
